The Criollo variety is called "The Queen of Cacao" because it produces the highest grade beans. It is an ancient variety, non hybrid, highly priced and the most highly regarded for their intense flavour and aroma. Our Peruvian Dark Chocolate is characterised by a fruity and bright flavour with notes of spice, and floral aromas. The Criollo beans are grown in small quantities in the Amazon River headlands of Peru, so this type of chocolate is not as widely available as other varieties. But trust me, it's worth seeking out - it's a real treat for the taste buds!
